With what seems like a billion and one new bands out there all vying to get your attention, it can be hard to figure out which ones are actually worth your time and attention. Us here at We Plug Good Music want to make your musical choices and life just that little bit easier for you by pointing you in the direction of new, emerging bands that are destined for great things. This week, we turn our attention to JUDAS, an alternative rock group from London. Having only formed last summer, JUDAS are a relatively new band to emerge onto the music scene. With infectious, melodious tracks and well-crafted lyrics, we’re certainly welcoming them with open arms. But who are JUDAS? Time to dig a little deeper.

Let’s start with the basics. JUDAS are a four piece based in London, made up of four mates John, Tom, Sam and James who all came together to unite forces and create sweet music through a little help from the internet. For a band who have seemingly just started out, JUDAS have made waves already. And big waves at that. Their track “Love Is The Enemy” was featured on BBC Introducing back in March alongside their first XFM radio play of another track entitled “Call Me“. If that wasn’t enough,  another of their song, “Youth of the Young Age” featured on Sky 1’s Soccer AM, what I can only imagine is the pinnacle for any football loving lads in a band.

“Call Me”, which you can listen to above, demonstrate what rock should always sound like. In fact, it already sounds like one of those classic tracks, with a brilliant chorus, rich with lyrics of a forlorn lover just waiting for his efforts to be reciprocated by a lover; “You said you’d call me back, but I won’t count on that“. It’s relatable and it works oh so well. JUDAS have got the formula down on this particular record. “Youth of the Young Age” on the other hand, is a fast-paced, hard-hitting anthemic track, which depicts the highs and lows of our generation; “Memories get confiscated, one-night stands are contemplated“, listen to it below.

I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of this emerging new band at Contours Festival in Sheffield over the Bank Holiday weekend. JUDAS headlined the festival organised by students at the University of Sheffield, and their live performance proved to be a true testament to the band’s talent. JUDAS possessed so much raw power and energy live, and with enigmatic frontman John Clancy commanding the stage, it really was hard to believe that this band are only just starting out. With 2015 set to be a promising year for the alternative rockers, JUDAS are ones to keep your eye on, quite literally. Well you wouldn’t want them getting away now, would you.

JUDAS will be playing a handful of live shows over the next coming months, with dates at various venues in North London and an appearance at Liverpool’s Sound City Festival which boasts an already impressive line up including The Vaccines, Belle & Sebastian and The Flaming Lips headlining. For all those wanting to get their social media stalking on, you can also follow JUDAS on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
