Alternative Sound Selection – March 2014

As you know, my Alternative Sound Selection features only the very best in alternative British urban music from R&B to Soul to Experimental to Progressive and everything in between and my picks for March are no different. Without further ado, here are some of the best that have caught my attention over the past four weeks.

JUCE – “BRAINDEAD”

Juce

Introducing fast-rising London female group Juce with their brand new offering titled “Braindead“. Following the massive success of their debut single “Call You Out” a few weeks ago, the trio of Cherish, Georgia and Chalin linked up once again with “Call You Out” producer Dan Carey and the outcome is this groovy Summer-fresh number which was recorded and mastered in less than 24 hours would you believe and is to be released on Carey’s Speedy Wunderground label on April 7. Enjoy the single below.

JOY OSAIAH – “REALITY”

Joy-Osaiah-Press-II

From London, we head over to Oxford where Hip-Hop/Soul singer-songwriter Joy Osaiah is hitting all the right notes with her debut single “Reality“. Boldly sampling Q-Tip’s 1999 single “Let’s Ride” and the 1974 hit “Island Letter” from Shuggie Otis, Joy Osaiah’s “Reality” highlights her rich vocals and impassioned songwriting in just over two minutes that you just want to hit that replay button a few times after. Her debut EP The Banks of Cherith is out in the Summer via Common World Recordings but let’s enjoy this one for now.

SHIFT K3Y – “TOUCH”

Shift K3y

Now for some nostalgia courtesy of 20-year old producer/DJ and now artist Shift K3y aka Lewis Jankel with his brand new offering titled “Touch“. You might have heard his name before from his remix work with the likes of Tinie Tempah, AlunaGeorge and Bastille but on this new offering “Touch” which mixes Garage and Pop music in a way that is reminiscent of Craig David fourteen years ago, Jankel comes to his own as a fully-fledged future Pop star. Plug in some decent speakers and watch the recently released video for “Touch” below.
