We’re excited to premiere the brand new single from North London artist duo NewAgeMuzik today titled “Brown Skin“. The single is due to be released tomorrow (September 8), but you can listen to it here exclusively. Best known for their fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and other genres, NewAgeMuzik have provided us with yet another vibe and this latest offering is perfect to round out the summer, as they embark on their #NewAgeSeason roll out.
This new single is produced by Dami Bones, who has previously worked with the likes of Wande Coal, Moelogo and 9ice, and engineered by Tobi Notch (Bonkaz, Baseman, Mazi Chukz), and it is an excellently progressive Afro-infused R&B track, which also features an interesting drum ‘n’ bass arrangement, over which Kamo and Prince’s infectious vocals and flows, come to the fore.
The British Nigerian duo first burst onto the scene with their massive underground records ‘Da Beat”, “Trending Topic” and “DMs”, and along with their acclaimed debut EP CarTunes, they have been able to amass over a million streams and views across SoundCloud, YouTube and Spotify in recent times. This new track “Brown Skin” is the first taste of what we can expect from their CarTunes follow up project, which is aptly titled CarTunes 2.
In a press statement where NewAgeMuzik talk about the inspiration behind “Brown Skin”, the duo say, “the song was created simply for the ladies, and is especially catered to black women, hence the name ‘Brown Skin’, but we also wanted to send a very conscious message to uplift our black women – they are ‘righteous’ despite how society tries to bring them down, and we have to protect and appreciate them at all times”.
Taking a slightly more political tone, they add that, “we never hear enough songs that boasted about our black women, so we made one, plus we want the message of ‘Brown Skin’ to be an antithesis to the countless stories of hatred and violence towards our black women that have flooded the news this year. We wanted to record a song dedicated to the ‘brown skin girl’, and appreciate what makes them so unique and beautiful”.
