Artist/Producer extraordinaire Mayday Carter, one of the hottest independent artists about, unveils the video for his brand new single titled “Pay Me“. It follows previous single “Squats” and is the first single to be released from his forthcoming highly anticipated debut EP London To LA.
The new tongue-in-cheek flick directed by DHC Productions and Cactus & Sandbox finds our protagonist in sunny LA on the hunt for somebody who’s literally trying to avoid paying him his money. Getting caught up in numerous things on the way, Carter is forced to trek through the city to get what is rightfully his.
“‘Pay Me’ is essential for the people who mean business and are done with the excuses, not just from other people but from themselves included”, says the London based artist. “No more holding back, time to collect the fruits from my labour – I hope you enjoy my music as I do!”
Mayday’s ‘unique’ and ‘unboxed’ sound has got him nods of approval from international heavyweights such as Kendrick Lamar, will.i.am and our very own Emeli Sandé. Already having worked with the likes of Safaree, Cheryl Cole and Giggs, there is no holding him back. Get ready for Mayday!
PREP + DEAN – “Cold Fire”
Experimental four-piece band PREP have released “Cold Fire” today, the latest new track to emerge from their forthcoming Cold Fire EP set to drop on Friday. The new track follows previous single “Don’t Bring Me Down” and arrives just ahead of a headline show in London’s Oslo on May 5.
This latest instantly immersive track features both production contributions from Kaytranada-approved producer Pomo and backing vocal slickness from Korean megastar DEAN, a driving force behind PREP’s own hothoused success in Asia. The track is driven by its infectious, quirky disco vibe thanks to the feel-good synths and guitars riffs used in a way that’s beautifully retro.
PREP came about as an alias for 4 artists with an eye-watering list of credits under their belts; Co-writer and classical composer keen on electronica Llywelyn Ap Myrddin, House music producer / drummer Guillaume Jambel, Grammy nominee Dan Radclyffe, and writer and frontman Tom Havelock. Four people who wouldn’t normally work together, four worlds combining to create sound that’s undeniably great.

Zilo – “Don’t Waste My Time”
Meet Zilo, the 24-year-old singer from London whose love of painting, poetry, and writing has evolved into music. A burgeoning artist inspired by instrumentals from the producer/vocalist Dream Koala, she has taken music with both hands, applying her creativity into this new vein. And the result? A soulful, blissful masterpiece you need to hear.
“Don’t Waste My Time” is only her third release following “Know That I Want You” and “Keep Up Wimmi“, but there is a clear sense of belief in her artistry and a signature sound which matches her warm, rich vocals. Production that fuses classic hip-hop with R&B/Soul thanks to Marco Bernardis and Lophiile, “Don’t Waste My Time” serves as a important reminder to always value your own time, even if others are not.
Being personal and retrospective on life and experiences is integral to her art. Zilo also paints the vivid, memorable artwork for her music, resulting in an artistic output that represents her vision, unfiltered and unobstructed – “I feel that it is super important to learn to be comfortable in your own company and it’s something I do find myself talking about in my songs a lot.”
Kadeem Tyrell – “Focus”
Seems like Kadeem has developed his own stamp when it comes to the creative feel in his videos. With KIRX in the director’s chair, both come together to pull off another crisp and simple visual for the collection. Various different cinematic shots are stitched together in such a seamless way that it’s quintessentially art, with Tyrell is the centre of it all. And what’s an R&B video without dancers as icing on the cake?
Kadeem had the pleasure of working with producer ROMderful. who’s affiliated with Soulection, the same collective associated with his dream collaborators KAYTRANADA and Monte Booker, the song boasts Kadeem’s smooth and seductive vocals and transports us back to the golden age of R&B. Kadeem Tyrell epitomises the alternative sound that is currently on the rise and with his talent and creativity, the sky’s the limit.
