Best New Music: Joe + Kelly Rowland – Love & Sex Part 2

Joe Thomas

Legendary R&B artist Joe has provided us with many R&B hits over the years. The multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards including Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 2001 and 2003, Best R&B album for My Name Is Joe in 2001 and Better Days in 2003. He has garnered five US Top 10 Albums including two #1 US R&B Albums in a career that has spanned over twenty years.

By far one of the greatest artists in the R&B genre, Joe has collaborated with some of the best in music game such as Keith Sweat, R. Kelly, and Mariah Carey. Having recently collaborated with Fantasia on “Love & Sex” last year, which was the highlight of his underrated album Doubleback: Evolution Of R&B, Joe is now back to cater to lovers everywhere with “Love & Sex Part 2” which features singer Kelly Rowland, along with its accompanying music video.

“Love & Sex Part 2” is the first single from his upcoming eleventh studio album Bridges which is due to be out in July. The song is a confession between lovers and the connection that they share together as different from superficial physical relationships. With the nostalgic feeling of that 90’s R&B sound reprised, this track is reminiscent of the golden times when R&B music was at its best and it is great for Joe to bring it back to us with R&B’s leading lady Kelly Rowland adding her fresh and talented vocals to the record.

The music video is a lush, beautiful, grown and sexy affair which goes a long way to bring the “Love & Sex Part 2” single further to life. Directed by Billie Woodruff who has worked with the likes of Toni Braxton, Luther Vandross and R. Kelly and is known for capturing feminine beauty quite well, we really get to see his talents fully as Kelly Rowland sure looks irresistible as Joe’s love interest in the visuals. The two look great together and posses great chemistry which obviously results in a greatly composed song.

If “Love & Sex Part 2” is any indication, then we can surely expect to hear more soulful, real R&B music from Joe, which has been missing lately in the music scene, when he releases his forthcoming Bridges album. The R&B veteran is sure to get real authentic love in the atmosphere again and that is something we can all look forward too.
