Miley Cyrus – “BB Talk”:

Miley Cyrus has been known for her share of controversial stints over the past couple of years, since her blonde transformation took place, but this one may just take the cake. In Cyrus’s newest music video, “BB Talk”, she’s seen dressed like a baby, as well as behaving like one. The random nature of the video shouldn’t come as a great surprise, given that she co-directed it, but even for Miley this is pretty high up on the weird-o-meter. Take a look for yourself…

Willow Smith – Ardipithecus (Album):

Hailing from an extremely creative and talented family, it’s no wonder that fifteen year old, Willow Smith wouldn’t also have a share of that gene, something she had already demonstrated at the age of nine, when she released her debut single, “Whip My Hair”. Now, after a string of singles over the years – one of them, “Fireball”, featuring Nicki Minaj – Smith has finally released her debut album, Ardipithecus – a complete surprise and with absolutely no promo except for a few vague tweets, but this is definitely something to add to your music library. Purchase the album on iTunes here, and in the meantime, you can stream it via Spotify below.

Killswitch Engage – “Strength Of The Mind”:

killswitch engage
After their last studio album release, Disarm The Descent, in 2013, metalcore band, Killswitch Engage, are ready to unleash their seventh album into the world in Spring 2016. In anticipation for the new LP, the band has released a brand new music video of one of the songs off of the upcoming album, “Strength Of The Mind”. 2016 looks like turning over a brand new leaf for the band, as they incorporate new themes into just this one song, while keeping true to their already established sound. Watch it below:

Wavves – “My Head Hurts”:

wavves
Wavves are an American rock band, based in San Diego, California. They formed back in 2008 by singer-songwriter Nathan Williams. Wavves released several 7″s as well as a cassette leading up to the first release, Wavves. After releasing the self titled album, they gained recognition from the likes of Pitchfork media, they gained more positive attention. Now, Wavves has shared a video for “My Head Hurts” which is taken from this year’s album release V. The video is directed by Jack Wagner and shows the live footage of the guys playing shows and messing around backstage. You can watch the video below.

Ra Ra Riot – “Water”:

An indie rock band that appears to be doing things a bit differently, Ra Ra Riot are on their way to releasing their fourth studio album, Need Your Light, on the 19th of February. While they have been around for almost ten years, it is only recently that they have started attracting attention of the masses.

In anticipation for the release of their new album, Ra Ra Riot have premiered a brand new song and music video called “Water”. It’s exactly as it says: layering music and lyrics together that create the same soothing effects as light waves lapping up on the beach (I personally got a déjà vu feeling of the song “Waiting For The End” by Linkin Park). Watch below.

Brian Fallon – “A Wonderful Life”:

brian-fallon
With the band currently on a hiatus, The Gaslight Anthem’s lead singer, Brian Fallon, recently announced he had started work on his solo album, Painkillers. This will be his first solo album, making it his debut as a solo artist – an incredible endeavour, especially after so many years of being in a successful band. In anticipation for the album release in March next year, Fallon has decided to stream a brand new song from the LP, “A Wonderful Life”. Listen below.

TEDDY – “Fulfilling Romance”:

Teddy
Join me back in the 90’s folks for the latest video from the super smooth London based three-piece Teddy and their forthcoming single “Fulfilling Romance”. This dance floor ready track should not just be left in the club because underneath the immediate catchy hooks is an emotive story, that is brought to us through tender lyrics about that oh so common problem of coming out and only having one chance in life to fulfil romance.

It is quite clear from the imagery of this track that the budget wasn’t that of say the latest Star Wars film, but yet somehow that is what makes it so much more enjoyable, as it portrays creativity and a sense of youth that I could relate to. (It almost reminds me of the opening credits to Saved By The Bell, which makes me just want to get up and dance). All in all, its a thumbs up from me and I cant wait to hear and see more from this Synth-pop trio.

Ghostpoet – “Be Right Back, Moving House”:

Ghostpoet
The evocative and highly experimental Ghostpoet sees in the festive season with his latest video for current single “Be Right Back, Moving House” which combined, create a beautiful combustion of lyrics and imagery. The track is currently settled on the A-list at BBC 6 Music and comes after a recent run of arena shows with alt-J and The Horrors. “Be Right Back, Moving House” is a brilliant trip hoppy track, taken from his third album Shedding Skin, that came as another stunning collection of story telling and fear fuelled beats, and to no surprise was shortlisted for this year’s Mercury Prize.

This latest video which features a cameo from Maximo Park’s Paul Smith showcases the everyday struggle for people achieving exactly what they want, and being bored of the never ending routine. The video is delivered simply but with a very artistic eye, which could be down to the directing of SBlood, because as an audience you are captured by the struggle and repetitive nature of the imagery, and immediately feel like you are involved in the dream like video.

Words by Stephanie Newton, Qurat-ul-Anne Sikander, Kira Knight and Kerrie Lobb
