Now one of the globally most famous pop artists, Mutya Buena has been releasing music to successful levels since a young age. Born in London in 1985, at the age of 13 she formed the girl group Sugababes, with fellow singers Kiesha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy.
Their debut single “Overload” reached the Top 10 in the British Charts, paving the way to their even more successful second album, Angels With Dirty Faces, that scored 4 hit UK singles and went triple platinum.
After she departed from Sugababes, Mutya’s career kept growing as she released the single “This Is Not Real Love” with now late George Michael. No surprise then that her debut solo album Real Girl, released in June 2007, was critically acclaimed.
“Black Valentine” is Mutya’s first collaboration with the electrifying duo Electric Pineapple. The production pair, comprised of Andrew Kingslow & Trina Smith, have already successfully worked with artists like M.I.A., Lily Allen, Future Cut and many more.
About “Black Valentine”, the duo said: “It’s been a huge honour for us to be able to work with someone whose voice has been so iconic and celebrated in the industry”.
When the undeniable talents of Mutya Buena and Electric Pineapple merged, the result is an inspiring track many will relate to. As Mutya stated, “Black Valentine is for the people who don’t always have a good memory of Valentine’s day. For those of us just like me that have had bad experiences, but the song aims to show us that it’s possible to overcome those bad times”.
The powerful Ace remix of “Black Valentine” certainly delivers the right energy to overcome bad times, making you want to join the dance floor straight away.
