WPGM Commentary: Tofunmi Adorna Explores Life’s Essential Truths On Debut EP ‘All In Good Time’

Hey there, I’m Tofunmi Adorna. I’m a singer and songwriter based in the Midlands (UK). I released my first single in February of this year and I’m so excited to be sharing more music with you through my very first EP All In Good Time (out now)!

All In Good Time is a 4-track record, all of the songs were written and composed by me with the help of my friends and band. My desire with this project was to create an introspective collection of songs that will take listeners on a soul-stirring journey through life’s joys and challenges.

For me, this project is an exploration of life itself. It’s a quest to make sense of who we are, to understand the profound meaning behind our existence, and to discover our purpose in this world.

Throughout my journey, I have always been committed to unravelling my “why,” and with this record, I felt compelled to share my experiences with others. That’s why, in 2020, I embarked on a mission to craft songs that would serve as gentle reminders of life’s essential truths.

Through my lyrics and the overall tone of the project, I aim to encourage listeners to embrace vulnerability and trust in the divine timing of their own life. This EP is my expression of self-discovery, and it delves into themes of identity, purpose, and faith.

In a culture that often promotes instant gratification, I want to remind people that the journey itself holds as much significance as the final destination. This record is so much more than an artistic endeavour, in many ways it is an intimate invitation for you to embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery alongside me.

The creative vision for this EP and writing process began for me in 2020. I have always wanted to record and release my own music, but quite interestingly I had never really felt the burning desire to do it – but that all changed for me at the start of 2020.

That year felt like the beginning of my journey as a song-writer. During the periods of national lock-down, I spent a lot of time journaling and reflecting and through this time I gained inspiration for the songs which now form my EP.

The making of this EP is particularly special to me, as I was able to co-write and create the songs collaboratively with a number of my close friends (these friends are also the musicians playing on the songs and spoken word artist also featured – Sophia Thakur).

All of the songs for the EP were completed towards the end of 2021, but being a first time artist and at the time not knowing a lot about releasing music, I naturally experienced a number of bumps and delays along the road. There were a number of times I felt incapable of completing the project, demotivated and intimidated by the process of doing something new.

Looking back now I am so grateful to have been surrounded by supportive friends and family, that encouraged me the whole while to keep going. So in the early months of 2021, I went back to the drawing board, and set out to make plans to record my EP during the summer.

With the help of the amazing community of supporters developed over the years, I was able to raise enough money to pay for a 3 day studio rental along with enough to host an intimate listening party.

Given the live feel that I wanted this project to have, I chose to have all of the instrumental parts for the songs recorded live. This was a big task.

However, much to my advantage I had extremely talented musicians including Joe Davis, Jack Morris, Joe Morris and Oscar Mucyo playing with me, which meant we were able to record the entire project (with the majority of the vocal parts) in three days.

This was a really magical time spent with friends, and was also a great first-time studio experience for me. I was also very fortunate to have worked with Joe Davis over the years who co-produced the record alongside Matthew Cotterhill (who also mixed and mastered this EP).
