WPGM Reviews: Sea Girls Live At The O2 Arena (In Pictures)

Louis Tomlinson has been touring Europe in support of his second solo record, Faith In The Future, and the former X Factor star has been supported by a bevy of pop and indie artists including; The Lathums, Andrew Cushin, The Academic, Ava Lily and Rachel Chinouriri.

For his show at London’s O2 arena, the former One Direction singer brought along The Academic once again, but for one night only, Louis would get main support from the one and only Sea Girls in their final show of 2023.

Whilst Louis was the artist everyone paid to see, Sea Girls arguably stole the show with their energetic set full of indie rock bangers. The London four piece played a short but sweet 7 song set with such gusto and showmanship you’d likely forget they are only the support act.

Surprisingly, Sea Girls didn’t play off their last album, 2022’s Homesick, instead they played mostly off their debut album Open Up Your Head, with outstanding performances of “Damage Done” as well as “All I Want To Hear You Say”, “Do You Really Wanna Know?” and their definitive anthem “Call Me Out”.

The band did also play “Too Much Fun” off their EP Adored, whilst rounding off the set list with new music with single ‘Weekends and Workdays’ as well as their latest and lead single off their upcoming album Young Strangers, which inspired a lot of hope for their next record.

Sea Girls is very much a band for fans of O2 headlining bands Two Door Cinema Club and The Wombats and they demonstrated perfectly that they are more than capable of following in their footsteps.

Although only the support act this time around, Sea Girls gave a sold out O2 arena everything they would want or need from a main support act, demonstrating that the O2 is where they belong, but in the meantime, you can catch them at the KOKO on March 20, 2024. Trust me, you’ll want to see them in a more intimate setting before they inevitably soar into the stratosphere.
