WPGM Recommends: Young T & Bugsey – Truth Be Told (Album Review)

If you are an avid lover of TikTok then the lyrics, “don’t rush, slow touch brown and white, like I got crunch” should have you reminiscing back to April of 2020 where the “don’t rush” challenge became a sensation. The challenge alone has reached 1.2 Billion views on the app since the release of the popular song “Don’t Rush” by UK music duo Young T and Bugsey.

You are probably scrolling through your drafts and may have found your cringey quarantine video of you doing the challenge. However, the Important question is, have you heard the duo’s latest mixtape Truth Be Told? It was recently released on the 21st of January, 2022, just two years after their debut mixtape Plead The 5th.

If I must say so myself, just jumping onto the ninth track on this new project, “Nice” featuring American rapper Blxst, this may just be the duo’s second sensational song on the popular app TikTok. I mean “I need an island girl” already sounds like everyone’s new favourite caption.

This mixtape really has something for everyone with some smooth rap mixed with a Jamaican reggae flare and Nigerian afrobeats vibe to make sure that this album better be on your summer playlist this year.

The hip hop duo Young T & Bugsey have been on the scene since 2016 and have blessed us with quit a few smash hits such as “Glistenin” and “Strike A Pose”. Something tells me their new mixtape may just have them selling out shows all over the world this year.

“Truth Be Told”, the opening song and title track, really shows the duos’ courage and perseverance within their life and I really feel it should be your song if you’re out there chasing your dreams and working on the grind daily. I think we can all relate to the lyrics, “Truth be told I ain’t lost nobody I needed, the real ones still around” because the people who really want to see you succeed will always be there.

My personal favourite is “Celly” and it comes as no surprise as Bugsey said to Apple Music, “There’s just something about this, I feel, the girls will love” and oh boy do I! The song really makes you want to be in love and as a woman, it makes me feel like I am about to boss up. I would definitely add this to your workout playlist or send it to your special someone.

It comes as no surprise that the duo came together again with British rapper Aitch for this new project, after their successful first collaboration “Strike A Pose” in June of 2019. Their new song “Caliente” really makes you feel like going out with your friends and having a good night out. It definitely has a let your hair down and let loose kind of vibe.

Another song that the girls will definitely go crazy over and have the men singing “Real G’s move in silence like its Bolognese” is “Prada Bae”, the lyric is most likely a reference to Lil Wayne’s song “6 Foot 7 Foot” and yes I am screaming!

Offering us 15 songs featuring some big names such as Chronixx, Blxst, Unknown T, Nafe Smallz and Aitch, this album will definitely be spending some time in top charts in not only the UK, but all over the world as well, a they push forward the ever growing influence of black music culture.

Young T & Bugsey really have something for everyone on Truth Be Told. Whether you are in love, busy grinding hard for your success, need a workout song or a party anthem, then I highly recommend you go get your best mates and your most comfortable dance shoes and have this mixtape on full volume.
