WPGM Interviews: Sia Amun – Music Without Expectations, Finding Yourself And ‘The Blue Dream Project’

Sia Amun
Sia Amun is a singer/songwriter, and “a creator, an artist, and a lover of life“, hailing from Pasadena, California. She is no newbie to the music industry by any means, and she describes her music as “authentic“. Sia Amun is one of the most exciting artists to come out of LA, and has proven herself a force to be reckoned with. Everything Sia has put out is of a high standard, with very varied musical styles in her arsenal.

This elusive artist already has some strong credentials against her name, from writing songs for some of the hottest artists in the industry such as Trey Songz, Lady Gaga, Tyrese Gibson, Keke Palmer, Will.I.Am, Mary J Blige, Ledisi, and Brandy (who so happens to be one of Sia’s idols), to executive producing her debut project, The Blue Dream Project.

Her career began when she was 16 years old, but she started songwriting professionally at 18, where her first professional music job landed her the opportunity of working on Lady Gaga’s platinum selling album, The Fame Monster in 2009.

We recently caught up with Sia to discover how she got involved in the music scene, and the current plans she has going forward, post collaborating with these amazing acts.

We started our conversation by recognising the release of her highly anticipated EP titled The Blue Dream Project, which is out now and available to stream on iTunes, as well as all other digital media outlets. Having worked with some of the greats, Sia took a break from songwriting for other artists in order to find herself and complete her project.

So what is ‘The Blue Dream Project’ all about? The Blue Dream Project according to Sia is, “A 6-song EP that I created during a pivotal time in my life. Over the course of creating this project, I was able to find myself, develop my sound, face my biggest fears, and overcome some of my biggest insecurities and challenges“.

Her progression from her first debut single “Runaway” early last year to The Blue Dream Project is substantial, confirming the work she is putting in behind the scenes. Sia has most recently delivered a smash record titled “Flowers“, taken off of the EP, with a vibe that puts her listeners in an euphoric trance, with its funky and soulful beat and captivating harmonies.

“Flowers” is an ode to marijuana, where we hear Sia talk about being “uplifted“, “taking it easy“, and her feelings towards the guy who delivers the special package. She adds, “Blue Dream is my favourite strain of flower because it’s euphoric, uplifting and helps with creativity. However, orchids allow me to exercise patience nurturing and care“.

“Flowers” has been received positively since its release. It made its international debut on Reprezent Radio 107.3 FM with the support of radio hosts Sons of Sonix, producers for heavyweight artists such as Wretch 32, Stormzy, and Melanie C (Spice Girls). Dubbed the female Bob Marley of her generation, Sia Amun continues to build a buzz by directing and releasing a perfectly matched visual for the blazing track.

The “Flowers” visual compliments the songstress most recent body of work with its original sound, compelling dance vibes, and rich vocals. “Flowers” is destined to be a fan favourite!

So what’s up and coming for Sia Amun? Well according to the soulful songstress, Sia definitely plans on collaborating with, and writing for more more artists in the future, and listeners can look forward to everything associated with Sia and her music, this is just the beginning of an amazing journey.

As a lover of music, I most definitely plan on collaborating with and writing for more artists in the future. I also plan to go on tour this year, hopefully come back to the UK and perform at all of the festivals, new music, new shows, more visuals, and just spreading the love!

Sia remains confident that things will happen when and how they are supposed to, that she doesn’t create music with expectations, “so I try not to focus on its progress per say, I just like and want to release good music“. Her self assurance as she talks about her future in music is inspiring and it makes sense too.
